Medium voltage drive/starter

Description

In this project, we commissioned a 2400V, 4000 Hp drive/motor unit. The drive was a 2500 Hp which was used to start the motor and then the drive synchronized in phase and amplitude with the mains to transfer to the starter.

Benefits of this system:

• Minimize the starting current
• Redundancy in case of starter failure
• Possibility to start the motor quickly after a stop since low current at start-up
• Following a loss of power, possibility to fly-catch the motor before it stops and restarts

 

Jacmar designed this system and tests were carried out under our responsibility at Yaskawa in Chicago with the drive/starter/motor assembly.
